Accessibility of e-tools (Quizlet)

I use Quizlet a lot in my classes to set up quizzes for the students in various subjects. I am now trying to discuss about the Accessibility issues of Quizlet:

  • Quizlet is very interactive and the one set of questions can be used to generate different sets of activities.
  • We can ask the students also to develop their own quizzes from a particular topic and send to other students.
  • The quizlet activities can be easily embedded into the blogs and Moodle for students to access.
  • The main problem I face with Quizlet is when we embed it on Moodle or Blog we cannot change the font or the size of the screen.
  • we cannot change the contrast as some students may have problems reading clack letters on White back ground.

Inclusivity of Multimedia

Inclusivity of Multimedia:

Multimedia is now a days encouraged and used a lot in the classrooms. It helps the teachers to get the group together and help all the learners to participate and learn in the  session.

The following are some ways in which Multimedia can be used:

  • When the resources are on-line or when learners are asked to develop something using multimedia resources the students can work at their own pace in the classrooms with students who finish the tasks on time will be able to proceed further and be able to complete higher ability activities.
  • It will encourage all the students to participate in the learning.
  • by requestion students to develop the multimedia resources in pairs or groups we can encourage better communication among the learners on how they want to complete a particular activity.
  • By having the links of the stuff done in class on Moodle or Blog the learners who are absent sometimes can understand what was done in the classes during their absence and update themselves.

Evaluating Youtube (evaluate a social networking tool)

YouTube in Education:

Everyone who uses YouTube will know that YouTube is just not about music it has so many resources in such varied collection of subjects that it makes YouTube as a very good social media which can be used in classrooms. Some points which I have identified which make YouTube a very good teaching tool are as follows:

  • The videos are sometimes of only 10-15 minutes which makes it easier to show in the classrooms at the end as a re-cap of the session.
  • The students can get a different view point on the same topic than the teacher talking all the time which may help them to understand the topic much better.
  • we can embed the links from the YouTube videos in Moodle, Blogs etc. to create a collection of videos for the learners or users.

Even though they are some good points of using YouTube in classes they are some disadvantages also:

  • Just showing the videos is not sufficient as the lessons become one sided. The tutor should leave sometime after the video for questions and answers to discus the video and to check learning.
  • Students can sometimes turn off their minds when videos are shown taking it as a break. We can avoid that by asking students to jot down three important points from the video while watching which will keep them attentive.
